Our Authors & How We Review Gambling Sites
Every casino, bookmaker and crypto gambling site reviewed on this website is tested and written up by a named member of our editorial team, then fact-checked by a second editor before publication.
We review offshore operators — sites licensed outside the United Kingdom that are not registered with GamStop — which makes accuracy and honesty about their limitations more important, not less. This page explains who we are and exactly how we test.
The Editorial Team

James Carrick
Casino & Payments Editor
James has reviewed online casinos and payment systems since 2017, with a particular focus on the offshore market that serves British players outside the UK Gambling Commission system. He has personally deposited at, played at and — crucially — withdrawn from more than 140 international casino sites, and he maintains the payment-speed logs used in our comparison tables. His testing specialities are withdrawal processing (including staged payouts and KYC-triggered delays), bonus terms and conditions analysis, and licence verification across the Curaçao, Anjouan and Costa Rica regimes.
James writes and maintains our non-GamStop casinos and UK crypto casinos guides.

Sophie Aldren
Sports Betting Editor
Sophie has worked in the betting industry since 2015, first as an odds compiler's assistant and then as a betting writer covering football, horse racing and the UK bookmaking market. She tests sportsbooks the way a punter actually uses them: she places real pre-match and in-play bets, measures odds margins against the UK exchange market, times cash-outs and withdrawals, and checks how each book handles winning accounts. She covers the regulatory side of British betting, including GamStop, affordability checks and the differences between UKGC and offshore licensing.
Sophie writes and maintains our non-GamStop betting sites guide.
Our 6-Step Review Methodology
Every operator in our comparison tables goes through the same six checks before it is listed, and every live review is re-checked when bonus terms change. If an operator fails a step, it either carries a clearly worded warning in its review or is removed entirely.
- Licence verification. We identify the operating company and its licence jurisdiction (for offshore sites this is typically Curaçao or Anjouan) and state it in the review. Where a regulator provides a public validation tool, we link it. We never describe an offshore licence as equivalent to UK Gambling Commission oversight — it is not.
- Real-money deposit test. We deposit using at least two methods (card or bank transfer, plus crypto where supported) and record minimum deposits, processing times and any fees in pounds sterling.
- Bonus terms audit. We read the full bonus terms and convert the headline offer into real numbers: wagering multiplier, total stake required in £, maximum bet while wagering, game weighting, withdrawal caps and expiry. Those worked figures — not the marketing headline — are what we publish.
- Gameplay and coverage check. For casinos: software providers, game counts, live dealer coverage and published RTPs. For sportsbooks: sports coverage, in-play depth, odds margins on the English Premier League and UK horse racing, and streaming availability.
- Withdrawal test. We request a real withdrawal and record how long it takes to land, what identity documents are requested and when, and whether payouts are staged or capped per week. This step produces the payout times in our tables.
- Support and complaint handling. We contact live chat with specific account questions, time the responses, and check what dispute options exist — being honest that offshore sites offer no UKGC-style alternative dispute resolution.
Editorial Standards
- We publish the date each guide was last updated, and we re-verify bonus figures against operator terms at each update.
- We never knowingly publish an invented statistic. Where an operator does not publish a figure (for example, exact game counts), we say so.
- Offshore sites are described with their real trade-offs: bigger bonuses and fewer restrictions, but no UKGC consumer protections, no GamStop coverage and limited dispute resolution.
- Responsible gambling information appears on every page. If you have self-excluded through GamStop, we ask you — genuinely — to read our responsible gambling page before anything else.
